Little Bear on the sofa...li'l stinker!

Little Bear on the sofa…li’l stinker!

Ah…puppies. They’re SO cute and sweet, love to play tug-of-war and snuggle. They also love to pee in our homes.

Um, yeah. Not so adorable.

Add lingering pet smells on rugs and furniture, as well as stinky trash cans, and it’s like a kick in the nuts for your nose.

But, along with crate training, like we’re doing with our newly rescued and lovable “Little Bear”, there’s a simple, natural recipe to keep your pup’s (and kitty’s) odiferous number 1s at bay.

Watch now, as I demonstrate these fantastic, non-toxic HomeAdvisor Home Hacks that’ll hide unwanted odors in your home.

HACK #1: Place a dryer sheet or newspaper under your garbage bag.

Dryer sheets and newspaper will absorb a lot of the smells and lessen any stinky smells from your trash. Replace with a new sheet or newspaper whenever you change your trash bags.

HACK #2: For your pet’s “number 1s”, spray a mixture of 2:1 mouthwash and water. Pat and let dry.

Pet urine can stink…eww! Be sure to remove as much of the pet pee as you can by blotting with a paper towel. Then, spray the area with this mixture above, or, try the same formula using white vinegar.

Note: white vinegar may smell from the bottle, but after applying to carpet or furniture, surprisingly it becomes odorless! Be sure the water is NOT hot, as it may set the stain.

HACK #3: For furniture odors, mix 1 box baking soda with 40 drops of an essential oil.

Once you’ve mixed the baking soda and essential oil* (try tea tree, peppermint, or lavender…yum!), sprinkle on carpets and/or furniture, allow to sit for 20-30 minutes, then vacuum it up!

*Essential oils can be found at Whole Foods, specialty shops or most natural food stores.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN!
