Inspiration is everywhere…even in a Vans dressing room. This past weekend, while shopping for pants, I happened across this fabulous use for…
Yep, it’s a radical hanging rack! With built-in holes for mounting and the shape for hanging, why not repurpose skateboard chucks? As my friend and fabulous designer, Shannon Quimby, coins it, this idea definitely falls into the “duh design” category! Here are some other clever ways to create radical racks out of skate, snow and surfboards utilizing their ready-for-hanging parts and piece.
Due to radical riders, broken skateboards often end up in the grinders graveyard. This clever company (appropriately dubbed, Recycled Skateboard Gifts) turned scrapes, scars and board art into one-of-a-kind handy hooks for hats, gear, bags, towels and even a charging station for your smartphone…so smart!
Well…sort of. These are actually skim boards cut to look like surfboard fins, which frankly, is just as cool. It not only repurposes broken boards, it schools us on the potential of reusing actual surfboard fins. Po-tay-to, po-tah-to…both save the earth a little fin at a time.

Again, inspiration and innovation can be staring us right in the face! These ski parts and pieces make for the most natural racks and rack hardware.
Ya gotta love it when something can be made to hold itself (kinda like when we give ourselves a hug!). This board, that’s no doubt seen its share of chatter, is now retired and reused to hold others of its kind as well as gear and snow sport whathaveyous.
What do you think of these clever racks? Radical or ridiculous?
