Ocean views provide more than eye candy, they offer the natural sounds and luscious fragrances of the sea; a daily extravagance that fortunate homeowners enjoy and are happy and willing to pay for at a premium. One such person is Mary Maguire, resident of one of Manhattan Beach’s chic homes and a do-it-herself designer with an eye for fine details. {Foyer}: guests are welcomed with turquoise and textured accessories to set the design tone of this beautiful home.
{Staircase & Landing}: Touches of the ocean are seen as we ascend to the top floor: sea foam green glass and artwork, driftwood plant ornaments and succulents remind us how close we are to the shore.
{Accessories}: a wall hanging paying homage to local beaches, and coral accent pillows and pieces tell a subtle and classy seaside story, not one that is kitschy and “themey”.
{Kitchen}: Turquoise hues continue on into the kitchen, as well as natural elements of gravel and sand colored granite counter tops, a backsplash of wave-work rocks, and frosted glass cabinet doors. All these elements together bring the outdoors in.
{Quirk}: Mary suggests always including at least one “quirky” piece in your home. “My favorite candy is ‘Dots’, and when I look at this clock, it just makes me happy.” It’s also a great design trick to lighten up a formal space, adding a touch of the unexpected.
{Living Room}: a neutral pallet allows the turquoise elements to pop. The simple addition of the neon green box breaks up the blues and helps to bring a bit of color asymmetry.
{Bedroom}: Sea foam blue walls, white linens and mirror accessories continue the coastal feel of this home, allowing for a peaceful, calm sleeping space.
{Office/Hallway}: a more masculine and graphic approach to this area is a great way to introduce a unique design story via wallpaper, flooring, and a decorative door (as well as a hanging door ornament) found on one of Mary’s travels.
{Guest Bathroom}: simple, sleek, and sandy, this guest bathroom is hotel and seaside ready, welcoming any visitor to stay a while.
