I know this is a family website, but even The Cosby Show rode the fence of innuendos and “suggestiveness” from time to time. Today’s DIY reminds me of my “Cosby” side, cuz, well…you know…a headboard that says “Love”? Grrrr…okay, I digress. With a little inspiration, leftover stuff from around your house, and simple tools and supplies, you can make a headbang’n headboard all your own! Materials like wood pieces (distressed is nice like the one shown above), foam core or 1/2″ plywood covered in batting and fabric, or a bamboo mat are easy to prepare and hang in just hours. Ya gotta love it!

Here’s what you’ll need: (for headboard above)

  • leftover wood (distressed)
  • two 1″ x 4″ wood slats
  • hand sander or paper
  • tack cloth
  • paint (optional if you wish to write a message on your headboard…i.e. “hubba, hubba!”)

Hanging Materials:

  • flush mount hangers
  • screwdriver/drill
  • screws

Below is my own version of this project. I first took a bamboo mat, used small nails to mount it onto the wall above our bed, then attached and hung a decorative ribbon to finish it off. I’m very pleased with it, as it is earthquake friendly, smartly inexpensive, and reflects a touch of “wabi-sabi” design.
