I love it when a simple item inspires us to create the unexpected, like the pillow in the picture above, its colors subtly framed and mimicked  in the many pictures and solid blocks of this very cool and vivid photo-framed collage. I mostly appreciate the simplicity and clever use of hues that tie this design pallet together so divinely.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Optional, but really cool design trick: colorful inspirational pillow, rug, fabric, etc.

• 24- 5×7″ picture frames

IKEA “Ram” frame, $1.99 p/3 pack. Photo: ikea.com.

• *24 color photos/color blocks/fabric swatches

Here’s what you do:

1. Use your inspirational piece to help you select 24 photos, color blocks, and fabric swatches to insert in to each frame.

*Optional: you can paint the frames any color, and if you have a black and white scheme, choose black and white photos and then insert pops of color with the color blocks or fabric swatches. You can also insert just one color photo for something even more interesting.

2. Arrange frames in a rectangle, square, or any configuration you please, then hang them tightly together to create the appearance of a single-piece collage.
