My grandmother’s basement in our Minnesota farmhouse was always known for two things: this very specific aroma of rusty well water and shelves full of canned jelly jars jammed with fruit preserves. Consequently, the site of a Kerr or Ball glass container reminds me of Maude, the farm, and a childhood nostalgia of simpler times. With that, these “they don’t make things like they used to” jelly and mason jars are popping up in all kinds of unexpected ways, quite possibly giving homage to grandmothers everywhere and creatively featuring the vintage quality of this time-honored home good.
